Beginner 1 (Units 1-4)

Beginner 1 introduces students to the fundamentals of Spanish: pronunciation, noun/adjective agreement, regular and irregular present-tense verbs, and basic greetings. Students will acquire the vocabulary and grammar skills necessary to communicate in authentic cultural settings. Students will hone their listening, writing, speaking, and reading skills; they will discuss topics including school, work, hobbies, and personal preferences. Beginner 1 sets the groundwork for cultivating the three types of communication specified by ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages): interpersonal communication, interpretive communication, and presentational communication (see www.actfl.org/publications/all/national-standards-foreign-language-education).
