In Intermediate 1, students will further develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, in particular concerning past actions and events. Students will learn how to differentiate between Spanish verbs that have similar meanings as well as verb tenses that have similar uses. This level emphasizes regular and irregular past-tense verbs, as well as direct and indirect object pronouns. Vocabularly topics include professional life and student life, daily routine, clothing, food, and restaurants. This level cultivates the three types of communication specified by ACTFL: interpersonal communication, interpretive communication, and presentational communication (see www.actfl.org/publications/all/national-standards-foreign-language-education).
